Air Astana participated in a Live TV broadcast with the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev on December 6, 2017. The theme was: "The new industrialization of Kazakhstan: a leap of the Kazakh leopard". During the call, Air Astana highlighted its newly built aviation and technical center in Astana which will provide important engineering support for the national carrier’s aircraft as well as support for other airlines operating flights to Kazakhstan. The Head of State launched the project during the live broadcast.

The opening of the centre will create one of the largest aircraft repair centres in Central Asia, which will likely prove to be a leading centre of its kind in the region. All types of aircraft repair will be carried out in the all modern centre, including heavy airline maintenance. The airline plans to set up workshops to repair aircraft components, perform composite repairs, and conduct non-destructive testing on site. This will represent the largest spare parts warehouse in Kazakhstan.

The Centre will create 190 jobs and will enable on-the-job training of future aircraft mechanics.

"We are grateful to the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev for his support in the creation of an aviation and technical centre in Astana. Its opening will allow the capital to continue its development as the largest aviation and transit hub in the region. The thoroughly modern centre was built using innovative materials and technologies. Maintenance will be carried out in accordance with the standards set out by the European Aviation Security Agency. Thus, the national air carrier contributes to the implementation of The National plan of developing: 100 steps”, commented Peter Foster, president and CEO, Air Astana JSC.
