Air Astana introduces new baggage policy

Air Astana has introduced a new baggage policy on all its flights purchased from August 7, 2019 for travel from August 21, 2019.

Air Astana has introduced a new baggage policy on all its flights purchased from August 7, 2019 for travel from August 21, 2019. The free baggage allowance will change from a weight-based system to a per piece system on all routes.

The piece system is used by a number of airlines including: Lufthansa, Asiana, Southern China Airways, S7, Aeroflot and others.

Starting from August 7, 2019 passengers will be able to take either one or two checked bags depending on chosen fare. The maximum allowable weight of one bag is 23 kg in economy class and 32 kg in business class. A 30% discount will be applied for extra baggage, if required, provided it is paid for at least 24 hours before departure.

The new tariff schedule for international destinations allows passengers to choose their fare independently to suit their needs. For example, passengers who make international trips only with hand luggage are able to buy a less expensive ticket without paying for baggage. Equally, passengers may purchase additional checked baggage without paying per extra kilogram. Excess baggage which is up to 9 kg (the total weight of one bag should not be more than 32 kilograms) will be charged according to a unified excess baggage rate.

The new rules do not apply to hand luggage. The weight allowance for free hand luggage remains the same at 8 kg. Thus, economy class passengers are eligible for one bag and business class passengers for two. Besides hand luggage, passengers are allowed personal items including an umbrella, flowers, etc. in the cabin at no extra charge.

Baggage allowance on tickets purchased before August 7, 2019 remains as specified at ticketing.
