Air Astana: The official carrier for the 28th World Winter Universiade in Almaty

Air Astana, the flag carrier of Kazakhstan, has signed an agreement to become a prime sponsor and official carrier for the 28th World Winter Universiade sporting event.

Air Astana, the flag carrier of Kazakhstan, has signed an agreement to become a prime sponsor and official carrier for the 28th World Winter Universiade sporting event, which will be held in Almaty 29th January to 8th February 2017. The official signing ceremony took place in Almaty today, with the signatories being Peter Foster, President of Air Astana and and Nail Nurov, Director of the Almaty 2017 Winter Universiade Organising Directorate.

Under the agreement, Air Astana will provide discounts to participating sportsmen and official delegations on regional and international flights, transport of the torch relay from Astana and 15 other cities to Almaty and use the airline's communications resources to promote the event.

The programme of the Winter Universiade includes 12 types of sports and is expected to attract more than 2000 athletes from more than 55 countries to Almaty. In addition 3,000 volunteers will be involved, including those coming from outside Kazakhstan. More than 30,000 visitors are predicted to attend the sporting festivities, with the event also being broadcast to 80 countries reaching up to one billion viewers.
